Obituary: Funeral for Anna Marie Hawthorne, 91, Cache, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Cache, with the Rev. Bryan Tener, pastor, and Pastor Scott Reed, of Cache First Baptist Church, officiating. Marie passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Lawton. Marie was born Nov. 2, 1919, to J.W. "Boothe" and Martha Susanne Melton Sanders at Bushyhead. At an early age, she moved with her family to the Wesley Chapel Community. They lived there until the Depression caused them to lose the farm and they moved to the Duncan area. Moving back to the Wesley Chapel Community, she attended Blue Beaver School and then graduated from Cache High School in 1937. She attended Cameron State Agricultural College. On March 11, 1941, she married Don L. Hawthorne in Lawton, and lived in the area until World War II started and her husband joined the Coast Guard. When she could she lived where he was stationed, at Cape May, and Sea Side Heights, N.J., and Saugerties, N.Y. After he was discharged, they made their home in Lawton, then moved to the Wesley Chapel Community and later to Cache. She was employed as a cook at Swinney Elementary School in Lawton and later became the head cook at Cache Public Schools. She had a great sense of humor which she never lost, and while she could drive had fun picking up her friend, Jeannie Runyan, then getting their hair done, buying a hamburger and driving around. Marie enjoyed singing and was a member of the Comanche County Choir and sang in the church choir as well. She was an active member of Cache First United Methodist Church until her health prevented her involvement. Until recently, Marie lived at The Village on Lee in Lawton. She is survived by four sons and their wives: Donald and Carolyn, Larry and Kaye, Arnold and Margaret, and Gary and Nancy, and a daughter and her husband, Mary and Gary Hataway, all of Cache; eight granddaughters: Dana Hawthorne, Austin, Texas; Sheri Anderson, Topeka, Kan; Susanne Frederickson and husband, John, and Kristie Harnisch and husband, Marty, all of San Antonio; Lindsay Hawthorne, Clearfield, Utah; Laura Hawthorne and her fiance, Stephen Mason, Gun Barrel City, Texas; Jessica Hawthorne, of Oklahoma City; and Anna Runnels and her husband, Justin, of Faxon; four grandsons: Richard Hawthorne and wife, Dottie, Gun Barrel City, Texas; Donald and Michael Hawthorne, of Stillwater; Don Paul Hataway, of Cache; and Kevin Moritz, of Salt Lake City; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Monta Burt, of Lawton. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers: Arville, Emmett, and Obbie Sanders; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Hawthorne; and an unborn grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to Promise Care Hospice, 4202 SW Lee Blvd., Lawton 73505. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.2
