Obituary: Harold M. Corray, 89, of Champaign, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. Rev. Randy Gauger will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign where military rites will be accorded by Champaign VFW Post 5520. Harold was born April 21, 1920, in Urbana, the son of George and Clara (Shroyer) Corray. They preceded him in death, as did his brother, Lawrence. He married Mary Louise Allen on March 7, 1947, in Alton. She also preceded him in death in July 1997. His survivors include daughters Pamela Corray of Champaign and Tari (Mike) Maurer of Franklin, Tenn. He is also survived by grandsons Seth (Kathy) Brewer of Mahomet, Zachary (Tabitha) Brewer of Havelock, N.C., and Luke Maurer of Franklin, Tenn; great-grandchildren Declan Brewer of Mahomet, Addisyn Brewer of Havelock; a great granddaughter due in April; and close cousins Roger, Jim, Bob and Bill Corray. Harold was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the Army from 1940 through 1944 in the 106th Cavalry, and was honorably discharged with the rank of technical sergeant. He thoroughly enjoyed his trip to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., with his daughters in October 2005. Harold was active in the Champaign-Urbana Elks, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He was an avid Cubs, Illini and Bears fan. He graduated from Illinois Commercial College in 1948, and was employed in sales and accounting until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, he held various jobs at local businesses. Harold enjoyed his family, telling jokes and his many friends. He will be greatly missed.2
