He was born Aug 3, 1882, in Jay County, Ind. He came to South Bend in 1923 from Quincy, Ill. He married Loretta Clements on July 25, 1907. She died in South Bend in April, 1949. On Dec 15, 1956, he married Crystal Nelson, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, William E. and Harold C; three daughters, Mrs. Eva Kroft, Mrs. Locella Wadell and Mrs. Harold Moyer, all of South Bend; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Alwilda Pugh of Winamac.1

Also surviving are one son, Robert M. Smith, Rochester; five grandchildren, Robert M. Smith Jr., Scott Thomas Smith, Brandon K. Smith, Glendon Smith and Holly Smith, all of this city; three brothers, Clarence Clements, Fort Wayne; Edwin Clements, Logansport, and Lloyd Clements, Phoenix, Ariz. Preceding in death were three sisters and one son. Last rites will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. Keith Smitley officiating. Burial will be in the Kewanna I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.4

Holloway, who survives. Mr. Clements was a farmer and livestock dealer. Surviving with the wife are three sons, Harold Clements, R.R. 2, Lucerne; Richard “Pete” Clements; Edwin Clements Jr., Townsville, Australia; a daughter, Mrs. Meredith (Dorothy) Etherington, R.R. 4, Logansport; twelve grandchildren, and elveen great-grandchildren. A son, a great-grandchild, four sisters and two brothers preceded in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ditmire-Zimmerman funeral home, Fulton, with the Rev. Raymond Skelton officiating. Burial will be in the Metea cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday.2
